Thinking of Selling your Jewellery?

What do the Guild of Valuers & Jewellers  buy?

Jewellery containing precious metal gold, platinum and silver. We also purchase dental gold but not costume jewellery or items that are gold plated or rolled gold. Our sales team can advise you further on 0844 209 2434.

I have jewellery that I think is worth more than scrap price.

We will discuss with you what type of items you are thinking of selling. We buy scrap but resalable jewellery is generally passed on to our auction partners.

Is there a minimum age for a customer?

Yes, you must be at least 18 years of age and reside in the United Kingdom.

How do I send my gold to you?

We will send you a pre paid Royal Mail Special delivery envelope together with packaging and instructions. The parcel is insured up to £500 but if you feel the contents may be worth more than this you can increase the insurance cover for a small fee.

I don't know what carat of gold I have as there is no hallmark.

We are looking at and testing precious metals every day even without hallmarks. We use acids and other equipment to determine the carat and we pay the same price for both hallmarked and unhallmarked gold, silver and platinum.

Does testing with acids damage the jewellery?

To test unhallmaked gold we need to determine the carat; to do this we file a little section of the surface where the acid will be placed. This will leave a small stain and sometimes an indentation where the metal has been filed. If you do not subsequently sell the items to us the marks are easily removed by polishing and this can be carried out by most jewellers.

Do you buy broken jewellery?

Yes, we buy the items in order to melt them down so their condition does not matter.

What do you do when my parcel arrives?

When your package arrives we follow a step by step process:

  1. Your parcel is unwrapped by our valuation department under video surveillance and the contents are checked against the delivery note you will have filled in. All of your details and the video are logged in to our system.
  2. The valuers will test all the contents and will determine the various carats. They will then weigh the different types and establish a value.
  3. We will then contact you with an offer to purchase; this is usually within 48hours of receiving your parcel. The price is guaranteed for that day only due to metal prices changing several times a day.

Once I accept your offer how do you pay me?

For safety and security we will pay you directly into your bank account using BACS transfer. There is no charge for this service and the funds will be with you within 4 working days.

Am I getting a fair price?

We feel we are competitive in the market and will pay you 75% of the daily metal price at the time of offer.

What if I change my mind?

Please make sure that you are absolutely certain about selling us your gold before accepting our offer. We send goods to be melted on a daily basis due to the fluctuating price of metal so once you have accepted our offer you cannot change your mind.
