Reporting a loss

Please make sure you follow these steps in order. We are unable to register your item(s) as lost or stolen on the e-register database until you have informed the police and acquired a Crime Reference Number (CRN) or a Lost Property Number (LPN).

Step 1. Report the loss or theft to the police by phone
- Provide details of the incident including the date, and describe the items as best you can.
- The police will issue you with a CRN or LPN. Remember to make a note of the police station name, address and telephone number before calling us.
– find your nearest police station online at www.police.uk.

Step 2. Report the loss to us on 0844 209 2434 with:

- Your Guild valuation reference numbers (these can be found on the bottom of each page  of your valuation) and a description of the item

- Details of the police station where the loss or theft has been reported

- Crime Reference Number or Lost Property Number

- The date of the incident

Report lost or stolen jewellery to the police, the Guild of Valuers & Jewellers and your insurer.

- We can then register the item(s) as lost or stolen on the e-register database.

Step 3. Report the loss to your insurer with:

- Your policy number

- Your Crime Reference Number or Lost Property Number

- Your valuation reference numbers (starting with GB and found on the bottom of each page of your valuation)

- The date and nature of the incident including as much information as you can.
