Frequently Asked Questions

First, we ascertain the purpose for which you need a valuation (Insurance, Probate, Open Market, Family Division, Sales Between Parties). Your items will be photographed, assessed and valued according to the appropriate purpose, with all details documented. For example, a valuation carried out for Insurance Purposes would be a new for old value based on high street replacement. In comparison, an Open Market valuation is based on estimated auction values on the date of valuation.

Whilst with us, your jewellery is handled with the utmost care and stored securely until it is ready to be returned to you. All parcels are opened and packaged under camera and are fully covered by our insurance whilst in our possession.

Our standard turnaround is 10 working days from receipt of your goods, for 15 items or less. Large valuations will require additional time and you will be contacted to advise the time scales.

Yes, we offer Same Day and Fast Track valuations depending on the service you use. Contact us to check our prices and availability.

Without an accurate up-to-date valuation you run the risk of being under insured in the event of a loss, damage or theft. A valuation will ensure that you are properly covered; the process of your claim will be greatly facilitated by the information within your valuation, aiding your insurer to replace your items.

If you are looking to sell your jewellery, we would recommend an Open Market valuation which will give you a full detailed description of your item and an indication of its current auction value.

Insurance replacement valuations should not be used as an aid to sell jewellery items as this value does not reflect the sale value.

Yes, our Insurance Valuations are recognised and accepted by all UK insurance companies.

If we have carried out the original valuation, we are pleased to offer a re-valuation at a discounted price. Please contact us here with your valuation reference numbers for more information.

It is recommended that you request a valuation carried out by a member of The Institute of Registered of Valuers (IRV) or the Jewellery Valuers Association (JVA). All accredited valuers from these associations will have forgone the highest level of industry training. All Guild Valuers are members of both of the IRV and JVA.

A Registered Valuer is a qualified, experienced and knowledgeable jewellery appraiser and part of a professional and trusted community of valuers regulated by The National Association of Jewellers.

Please contact the valuer directly with any queries or concerns you may have.
